SIVASAGAR, September 17: Uvailability of anti-ske venom at Sivasagar Civil Hospital, Joysagar, has once again exposed the poor state of affairs in the government hospital.

According to sources, there was panic in the hospital when a patient was rushed to the hospital on the night of September 15 for ske anti-venom but turned away as allegedly there was no anti-ske venom available in the hospital.

Rumi Begum of Darbar Tiniali of Sivasagar town was bitten by a ske on September 15. She was rushed to Sivasagar Civil Hospital located at Joysagar by her family and relatives. After waiting for a long time, they were turned away, alleged family members of Rumi.

The helpless family then took her to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, where she underwent treatment and has now recovered, said the family of Rumi.

Uvailability of proper sitting arrangement, drinking water facility, and unhygienic condition of latrine and toilets have always been the cause of misery for patients and their attendants at Sivasagar Civil Hospital.

Additiol Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar HK Pegu had paid a sudden visit in the hospital last month and expressed dissatisfaction with the pathetic condition of the hospital and instructed the Superintendent of the hospital to improve health services immediately.

There are also allegations that patients are often turned away from the hospital pharmacy and asked to buy important drugs and vaccines like Rabipur from chemist shops outside the hospital.
