Sivasagar completes 32 years of district-hood

SIVASAGAR, July 1: The celebration of Sivasagar’s foundation day, called Sivasagar Divas, was observed in Sivasagar on Wednesday with gaiety and enthusiasm.

The day-long programme began with flag hoisting at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar followed by an awareness rally from Boarding Field which was flagged off by Budhin Deuri, Executive Director, ONGC Assam Asset.

Various activities marked the celebration such as playing of Sivasagar Divas theme song through fixed loud speakers, cleaning of historical sites and plantation drive at GPs, blood dotion camp at Jaydayal Khemka Matri Sewa Sadan and free health check up camp for persons above 45 years and iuguration of renovated Illumition System at Andaram Boruah Park by noted social activist of Sivasagar Saurav Chaliha.

A special function was also organized in the evening at Sivasagar tya Mandir where Tulsiram Neog, Powal Changmai, Niron Gogoi, Srikant Mahato, Mathuramohan Sharma, Haren Bhuyan, Alakarani Chetia, Babakan Ali, Maneswar Mili, Likhan Dutta and Thanu Phukan were felicitated for their contribution in different fields of society. Thirty two earthen lamps were also lit by noted citizens and leaders of various organizations to mark the completion of 32 years of Sivasagar district.

It was on this day in 1983, when Sivasagar district in its present form was formed. To commemorate the formation of the district and to cherish the harmonious co-existence of various communities, to further inclusive development and to motivate the residents to participate in the conservation of historical endowments, this initiative was launched last year.
