From a Correspondent

JOYSAGAR, Feb 6: Agricultural insurance is nowadays regarded as safeguard for the farming community but Sivasagar district seems to show low participation in this.

Most of the small farmers of the district have not even heard about such a scheme taken up by the government for the benefit of the poor farmers whose crops get affected during a tural calamity like flood or drought. It has been found that most of the banks also take no interest to educate or to make farmers aware about this scheme of the Central Government launched years ago.

As per reports from the Sivasagar District Agriculture Statistical Branch, the percentage of farmers of Sivasagar having agriculture insurance in the tiolized banks is below 10 per cent.
