Sivasagar gears up for 74th session of AXX

SIVASAGAR, December 15:  Brisk preparation is on at the historic Rupahi Pathar in Sivasagar, the proposed site for the 74th annual conference of Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX). The conference of Axam Xahitya Xabha, the apex literary organization of the State, will be held from February 1 to February 4, 2017.

In this regard, a public meeting for formation of a reception committee for the conference was held here at Piyoli Phukan Stadium recently with president of Sivasagar Zila Xahitya Xabha, Dr Anil Saikia in the chair. In the meeting, a 21-member steering committee with Soram Baruah as president, Anil Saikia as working president, Juga Gogoi as general secretary and Swarlata Barua Borbora, Ujjal Thakur and Horesh Baruah as joint secretaries was formed. This steering committee will form the full-fledged reception committee in the upcoming days, said office bearers of the Xabha.

The Xabha came into being in 1917 and its first session was held in Sivasagar district under the president ship of Padmath Gohain Baruah, and it will complete 100 years in 2017. So the session 2017 is being seen as significant considering its long journey of 100 years.

Former president AXX Imran Shah, former Padadhikar of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Rajanikanta Dutta, vice-president of AXX Dr Parag Thakur, assistant secretary of AXX Samiran Bordoloi, and other dignitaries along with hundreds of people attended the meeting.
