Sivasagar observes Road Safety Awareness Week

SIVASAGAR, June 11: A sensitization programme on road safety was held in Sivasagar recently as part of the Road Safety Awareness Week being observed jointly by Sivasagar Civil and Police Administration and District Transport Office.

In the sensitisation programme held at Sivasagar tya Mandir, Deputy Commissioner Virendra Mittal, in his iugural speech, emphasized on the need for following traffic rules and regulation.

The other speakers such as Sivasagar Superintendent of Police Bibekanda Das and Associate Professor of Sibsagar College, bajyoti Sharma threw light on road-safety measures to be followed. A booklet brought on road safety awareness by the transport department, was also released on the occasion.

Riya Chetia of Phuleswari Girls’ HS School and Samujjal Gogoi of Bhuban Gogoi Memorial Assam Polytechnic Institute won the first prize, while Jefri Ahmed of Phuleswari Girls’ HS School won the second prize in the speech competition on the topic ‘Road Safety: Responsibility of Government and Citizens’ held on the occasion. On the other hand, Sayan Mazumdar of No. 1 Town Primary School, Mumtaz Begum of No. 394 Jengonikotia Primary School and Pori Deuri of No. 2 Town Balika Primary School won the first, second and third prize in painting competition respectively.
