JOYSAGAR, April 20: The anti-corruption drive launched by the State government has made its way to Sivasagar district also. In a breakthrough, State Finance and Treasury Department has suspended Nava Jyoti Gogoi, District Treasury Officer of Sivasagar on Thursday. As per an order issued by the State Finance Commissioner and Secretary D Malakar, Gogoi has been suspended for travelling to foreign countries without obtaining the necessary government permission.

Sources also revealed that Gogoi was under scanner of the Chief Minister’s Vigilance and Anti-corruption department since a long time. It is alleged that Gogoi maintained close nexus with a group that had fraudulently swindled about Rs 300 crore in the matter of paying compensation to parties whose land and property were affected during the construction of the four-lane NH-37 project in Sivasagar district. Allegations are also rife that Treasury Officer Gogoi and his family had travelled to several foreign countries with the fund received from the group involved in the scam.  NJ Gogoi had also released several CD films and musical CDs within a very short period and this has raised the question of his fund source. Further, many teachers’ organizations also alleged that Gogoi has been extracting about 20 percent commission from the teachers’ salary bill. Similar allegations are also made in the matter of clearing government contractors’ bill submitted in the Sivasagar treasury.
