Six arrested for extortion, abductions

Shillong, Nov 18: The West Garo Hills police has arrested six persons for their alleged involvement in extortion and abduction cases.

According to police, the arrests were made during pre-dawn raids conducted today at Megapara, Rengsinpara, Rabhagre, Dobok Jakolgre, Khagrakgre, Cheran Apal, villages under Tikrikilla police station.

The arrested have been identified as, Killipson Sangma, of Megapara, West Garo Hills district, Krilbirth Ch Sangma, Dobok Jakolgre, West Garo Hills, Karson Ch Sangma, Kagrakgre, North Garo Hills, Loking Ch Sangma, Cheran Apal, North Garo Hills and Gobithar Marak, Wakso Todamgre, North Garo Hills. According to IG (Operations) GHP Raju, the apprehended persons admitted their involvement in extortion, kidpping including harbouring cadres of various militant groups.  Based on their statements, four 9mm pistols, one 9mm magazine, 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one SBBL gun were recovered from Megapara forest area.
