Six arrested for 'vandalizing' school property

RANGIA, Jan 15: Student leader Matiur Rahman and five female teachers,  mely Pranita Das, Pompi Devi,  Jyots Devi,  Manikanka Das and mita Das were arrested by Rangia Police here recently  in connection with a case lodged by the Army  alleging  breaking of the entrance wall  of the Red Horns Public School, thereby vandalizing the brick barricade set up and other such properties of the school on January 4 at Chepti near Rangia. The school has been set up by Red Horns Division of Indian Army.
 The arrested persons were produced later before the SDJM court at Rangia and were sent to lbari  Jail under the Rangiya PS case No. 075/18 U/S 143/448/427IPC R/W Section 3 of  PDPP Act. The arrested women are the teachers of the school.
As the headquarter of Red Horn Division shifted from Rangia, the army authority has been trying to close the school for the last several months but the local people, including some student organizations, have been opposing the decision of the Army authorities. On January 4, they staged a protest and allegedly vandalized the school property. On the other hand, the public also lodged an FIR against the Army.
