Six ethnic communities demand ST status before February 27

DEMOW, Feb  20: A meeting of the six ethnic groups of Assam was organized on Saturday in Demow Press Club.

After the meeting, Deba Kumar Saikia, chief convener of the Six Ethnic Maha Sanmillan, Assam held a press meet where he said that if the Central and State governments do grant ST status to the six communities before February 27 then in the upcoming assembly election, they would stop the entry of BJP and Congress in the six ethnic groups’ areas. He also said that in the past the Congress and BJP had only promised but did not grant ST status till date. Before the Lok Sabha election, all the political parties had promised that ST status would be given to the six ethnic groups but after election, nothing happened. Leaders of various organizations of the six ethnic groups were present in the meeting.
