Six poachers arrested for rhino poaching in KNP

DERGAON, April 19:  Six suspected  poachers were arrested by police from Diphlu area under Bokakhat police station in Golaghat district last night.

A team of police led by Golaght SP and ASP arrested the six poachers including a secretary of village defence committee in a joint operation from Diphlu area.

The arrested secretary of the village defence committee has been identified as Dwarik Karmakar.

Police sources said that arrested Karmakar during the interrogation have revealed that they had killed a female rhino in Kaziranga tiol Park on April 10 with the help of two hardcore poachers from galand. They chopped off the horn of the rhino and sold it at Dimapur.

According to police the horn was of a rhino in the Agaratoli Range of Kaziranga tiol Park near Bokakhat.
