Six sentenced for life in murder case in Dhubri

DHUBRI, May 26: Six persons accused in the murder of two persons were sentenced rigorous life imprisonment by Additiol Session Judge, Sutham Das on Friday. Additiol Public Prosecutor, Uttam Kumar Sarkar appeared and pleaded on behalf of the victim families. Twin murder was committed on October 11, 1997 in Gajarikandi village under Mancachar police station of the then Dhubri district. Accused Amzad Ali, Haidar Ali, Nur Bakta, Nur Zamal, Abdul Razzak and Samsul Bari were charged under section 302 IPC and sentenced to  life imprisonment with fine of Rs. 2000 each and in case of default two months more imprisonment for each. Rahman Ali and Sukur Ali were murdered by six accused in the morning of October 11, 1997. Rahman died on the spot when the six accused attacked the duo over a land feud with sharp weapons while Sukur Ali succumbed to injuries in Dhubri Civil Hospital. A case bearing no 159/97 was registered in Manchar police station under section 147/148/149/447/324/302 IPC. It was subsequently investigated and charge sheet was filed in 2000 in Additiol Session Court and trial began.
