Six teachers receive OIL Siksha Rat Puroskar

Dibrugarh, September 26: Six teachers were awarded with OIL Siksha Rat Puroskar on Monday at a function held at Duliajan Club amidst presence of former Principal of Cotton College and eminent educationist, Dr Indra Kumar Bhattacharya, and CMD of OIL, Utpal Bora, Director (E&D), S. Mahapatra, Director (operation), PK Sarmah, including Resident Chief Executive (RCE) Jayanta Kumar Borgohain.

OIL, under its educatiol Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, has been giving the prestigious  Shiksha Rat Award to honour the in-service teachers  of all provincialized schools (Elementary to Secondary) of the Government of Assam and all affiliated non-technical undergraduate colleges under State Universities of Assam, since 2013 for their commendable contribution and sacrifices towards the development of quality  education. The Shiksha Rat Puroskar consists of cash incentive of Rs 1 lakh, a silver salver and mementoes to each of the awardees.

The award giving function was followed by a teachers’ workshop. The six teachers on whom the OIL Shiksha Rat Puraskar-2016 was conferred are Swapan Bezbaruah, Alengmara Sori Gaon MV School, Alengmara, Jorhat ; Mukul Borkotoky, Duwara Pather Prathamik Vidyalaya, Dibrugarh ; Juri Saikia, Amguri Hindi LP School, Amguri, Sivsagar; Bharat Rajkhowa, Kadam High School, Kadam, Bogidi, Lakhimpur ; Meekshi Goswami, CNS Higher Secondary School, Pithakhowa, Sonitpur and  Dr. Manjit Gogoi, Jhanji Hemth Sharma College, Sivasagar.

CMD of OIL, Utpal Bora, while congratulating the six recipients of the OIL Shiksha Rat Puraskar,  extolled their commendable contribution towards imparting quality education to children.

While stating about the objective behind the award, Bora talked about how the award would inspire and motivate the teaching fraternity.

Dr. Indra Kumar Bhattacharya in his speech acknowledged the exemplary contribution of teachers in tion building. Congratulating the recipients of the award, he also talked about their responsibility to uphold and set an example among the teaching fraternity.

Director (E&D) S Mahapatra, and Director (Operations) P K Sharma, congratulated the awardees and reiterated about the CSR initiatives of OIL in various sectors that promise to continue the development work for people residing in its operatiol areas.  RCE, (OIL) J K Borgohain,   in his speech cited the role of teachers in tion building, their passion to nurture knowledge and to generate the spirit of inquisitiveness among the students. The recipients of OIL Shiksha Rat Puraskar, 2016 were announced through press advertisement on Teachers’ Day (September 5, 2016).

Earlier, the teachers had submitted their self-nomition for the award against a press advertisement released by OIL. IL&FS Education was entrusted with the task of scrutinizing the entries and conducting the selection process through an independent jury comprising of distinguished members from education fraternity and representatives from Dibrugarh University and Gauhati University.

The award ceremony was followed by a teachers’ workshop conducted by resource persons of IL&FS Education. Around 300 teachers from OIL’s operatiol areas participated in the workshop.
