Skill development only way to develop Barak Valley: Sonowal

Youth conclave organized by Union Ministry of State for Sports and Youth Affairs begins at Silchar

SILCHAR, Jan 21: Students’ phase is the golden phase of one’s life. The power of youth is supreme to all other powers of the world. To make Assam proud, Barak Valley comprising the districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi and Dima Hasao district has to be made the most developed region of the tion. Prime Minister rendra Modi believes that only with selfless dedication of the citizens of this country particularly the youth can the tion be developed. Considering the backwardness of the region, the youth has to work very hard. There are no shortcuts to success, said Sarbanda Sonowal, Union Minister for State of Sports and Youth Affairs (Independent Charge), in the opening ceremony of youth conclaves organized by the ministry in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan held in Town Club ground here today.

 The programme began with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by Sonowal and other distinguished dignitaries. They also paid floral tributes to the portrait of Bharat Mata and Swami Vivekanda. The tiol song ‘Vande Mataram’ was sung by artists of Arjya Sanskriti Bodhoni Samiti of the town. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, is organizing the youth conclave in six places of the state including Silchar, gaon, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Bongaigaon and Guwahati. The opening ceremony was held here today.

 The Union Minister further said the youth conclave is meant for the welfare of the youth of the valley along with the other parts of the state. The rendra Modi led Central Government has launched three schemes, Start Up India, Make In India and Digital India, for development of the tion. He informed the youths that he would direct Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs, to take steps so that one skill development centre could be opened in each district of this valley along with Dima Hasao.

 Sonowal urged upon the gathering to avail themselves of the facilities of the skill development centres which will be opened shortly. He said unless the youth learnt modern skills, they cannot make products for the world market. Quoting rendra Modi, Sonowal said that the solution to the problems of the state of Assam is ‘development, development and development’.

 Sonowal also assured the gathering that he would propose the ministers concerned for three more bridges over river Barak for better connectivity, an institution for research and youth development med after Swami Vivekanda, immediate completion of the pending works of Maha Sadak better known as East West Corridor, double track railway lines for the valley and also better tourism infrastructure for Barak Valley and Dima Hasao district.

Hundreds of youths from the four districts participated in the conclave.

Kabindra Purkayastha, state vice-president, former union minister and senior most leader of BJP said that the youth and the members of the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan of Barak Valley and Dima Hasao have made the event a grand success.

Dilip Kumar Paul, MLA Silchar, said that though the Sangathan was founded in 1977, but it is for the first time that such a mega event is being organized in this valley..

 Prof. N.V. Deshpande, Director of NIT Silchar, said he had gone to Guwahati on January 19 to participate in the programme at IIT Guwahati where rendra Modi said that after 15 years, India would be the only tion in the world with the power of skilled and vibrant youth.

The conclave has been organized to know more about the ambitions and goals of youth of Barak Valley and Dima Hasao district.
