Skill development programmes should be launched in xatras, amghars : Governor

Batadrava, Oct 1: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday took part in the celebrations for the 569th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev at Batadrava, gaon, the birth place of the great vVaishvite saint.

At around 1 pm, the Governor reached Batadrava Than to attend a religious discussion meeting which was presided over by Paramnda Dev Mahanta, president of Batadrava Than maging committee. Attending as chief guest, the Governor in his speech said, “I am very much lucky and grateful to be a part of the grand celebration. It gives me the chance to recall the great saint Sankardev at his birthplace. Batadrava is as divine as Mathura and Vrindaban. The Modi government is focusing on skill development which was showcased by Sankardev around 500 years ago.” He also stated that skill development programmes should be launched in xatras and amghars too.

On the other hand, gracing on the occasion, legislator of Batadrava, Angoorlata Deka said, “I have been dreaming to develop Batadrava, the birth place of Sankardev as a world religious tourist spot. I want to assure the people of Batadrava that I am very much committed to do all the developmental works in my tenure.”

Chairman of Assam Tourism Corporation, Jayanta Malla Baruah,  renowned researcher Lambit Baruah, Xattradhikar of Sri Sri ruwa Xatra,  Devanda Devgoswami, secretary of Batadrava Than maging committee, Brajen Kakati, Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of gaon and others were present in the meeting and gave lectures.

Earlier, before attending the meeting, Governor Banwarilal Purohit took part in am prasanga at the kirtanghar, offered prayers and also planted a Rudraksh sapling near Akashi Ganga.
