Slow progress on different issues results in JSU split

SHILLONG, May 12: In a shocking development, the Jaintia Student Union (JSU) has crumbled due to alleged differences in the Union and has led to the formation of a breakaway group called the JSU-I. In a statement issued on Friday, general secretary of the newly floated JSU-I, L Phawa, while informing that JSU from Jaintia hills have been divided into two, he said the reason for the split is because a few units and circles have observed that the functioning of the JSU central body has failed to move ahead on various issues. He informed that the unit and circles which have split from the JSU included Sopur Unit, Thadlaskein Circle, Iongpiah Unit, Shillong Circle, Moodymmai Unit, Mukhap Unit and Nongjngi Iongluwit Circle. Phawa said all the units and circles have unimously decided to break away from the JSU and form the JSU-I, with an intention to move forward with various issues concerning the public.
