SLRM launched for systematic disposal of garbage in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, March 1: The Kokrajhar Municipality Board (KMB) on Monday launched Solid and Liquid Resource Magement (SLRM) system in Kokrajhar town as part of its Kokrajhar Swacch Mission and Green Kokrajhar Mission at a ceremonial programme held at Basic Training Centre, Kokrajhar.

The deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary iugurated the newly-built office building of SLRM near Gaurang River in presence of BTC Executive Meeting of Urban Development Doneswar Goyary, secretary of BTC, Rahila Brahma and prominent citizens of Kokrajhar town. Saplings were also planted near the SLRM office building.

As part of the programme, a rally was held in the heart of Kokrajhar town starting from Kokrajhar Basic Training Centre which was flagged off by BTC deputy chief Kampa Borgoyary. SLRM is aimed to make Kokrajhar town free from dirt and unhygienic atmosphere due to lack of systematic disposal of garbage.

A meeting was also held at Basic Training auditorium hall with KMB chairman Bishnu rzary in the chair. The deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyary, while hailing the initiative of KMB under rzary, said the aims of the board to make Kokrajhar free from garbage dumps should be supported by the people of Kokrajhar. He said the board should also carry out awareness programmes continuously both in urban and rural places to motivate the people how to dispatch garbage and other waste materials. He also said the KMB should carry out the awareness programmes and printing of leaflets and pamphlets in local languages so that people of all communities can understand about the objective of the Kokrajhar Swachh Mission. The meeting was also addressed by BTC EM of Urban Development Doneswar Goyary and attended by leading citizens of Kokrajhar.  

Bishnu rzary, chairman of the Kokrajhar Municipality Board (KMB), said that the board had started the Solid and Liquid Resource Magement (SLRM) in Kokrajhar town which would benefit the citizens for disposal of waste materials. He said that altogether 150 trainees had successfully completed 15 days Solid and Liquid Resource Magement (SLRM) training and they were trained by Cheni based C. Srinivasan, founder of Vellore-based Indian Green Service (IGS).

rzary said that it was an initiative to keep the town neat and clean through waste magement and recycling of the waste materials. He said that the KMB had taken initiative to solve various problems in Kokrajhar town. He said the board has brought over 10,000 dustbins which would be distributed to every family under 10 wards and the waste materials collected from the houses would be segregated. rzary also urged the people to cooperate for better environment in Kokrajhar town.
