SLRM workers clean up Baokhungri Festival venue

From our Correspondent

KOKRAJHAR, April 17: The time has come to ask ourselves how far we are conscious about the call of Prime Minister rendra Modi for a clean India through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and what is our responsibility being the citizens of this country to follow the tionwide call for a clean India. For instance, the observance committee of Baokhungri Festival at Nwlwbari, Kokrajhar, the calendar event of BTC, had put dustbins in front of every stall and corner but most of the visitors were seen throwing waste materials, be it plastic bottles or polythene bags, on the ground as their will.

Credit goes to the workers of Solid and Liquid Resource Magement (SLRM) engaged by the Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB) and activists of Discovery Club who picked up the waste materials in the venue of Baokhungri Festival from morning till evening daily. The SLRM workers did not hesitate to pick up waste materials thrown by the visitors of cleaning the field. They simply did their duty with all their heart.

There were over 50 stalls in the ethnic food festival and an equal number of private stalls were on the roadside leading to Baokhungri hills. Each and every stall was seen full of garbage. There was no one to look after the magement of garbage or waste materials in the past but this time the SLRM workers under KMB cleaned up the venue of the festival. However, no one acknowledged their hard work and even the organizing committee forgot to mention them in the vote of thanks on the concluding ceremony.

The SLRM workers were trained by experts from Cheni on how to collect the garbage and make the town clean. After three months training, the workers were engaged by the KMB two years ago under the efforts of the new chairman of the KMB, Bishnu rzary. The workers pick up the dumped garbage from each residence of every ward under KMB twice a day in Kokrajhar town as a result of which, the headquarter town of BTC has become cleaner.
