Smart card system for registration card, driving licence introduced

Haflong, Nov 3: The District Transport Office of Dima Hasao ceremonially introduced the long deprived smart card system for driving license and registration card for the registered motor vehicles in the district on Thursday. Although this type of card has been functiol in different districts after its introduction in the year 2008, Dima Hasao had been deprived of this smart card-type card. As explained by the District Transport Officer Abdul Masjid, the smart cards can then be linked to the central database which will carry all the data of the card holder and the vehicle registered.

MLA BB Hagjer was specially invited as the chief guest. He pointed few challenges that need the attention of the office to increase the number of registration of vehicles purchased by the people of the district. Deputy Commissioner Deva Jyoti Hazarika praised the efforts of the department in introducing this long-needed facility which was already existent in almost all the districts except here. He announced that from Thursday all the licenses and certificates issued would be embedded with microchip that would contain all the details as required for the convenience of the owner as well as the authority. At the end of the programme, few applicants were ceremonially distributed their driving licenses by the MLA, DC and ADCs.
