SMB workers begin phase-II strike

From a Correspondent

Joysagar, Feb 7: Along with the other local bodies of the State, Sivasagar Municipal Board workers and employees staged phase –II strike to demand release of their monthly salary which has not been disbursed since 14 months. The SMB workers and employees concluded phase-I strike on February 4. As neither the Sivasagar district administration nor the Municipal Board authorities came forward to solve the long-pending  monthly salary disbursement issue and as the discussion held between the workers’ union and the Municipal authorities failed on February 6, the union launched the ‘kalam bandh-kam bandh’ strike from today for two more days. Due to frequent strikes and agitation by the SMB worker-employees’ union, the regular work of garbage cleaning, maintence of public parks and other essential duties has been disrupted.
