Smugglers held with tiger teeth

Itagar, June 5: Two smugglers of forest products were apprehended on Wednseday night at Pasighat in East Siang district while allegedly trying to smuggle tiger teeth. Mining Danggen and Aniram Lego were caught by police after it had received intelligence inputs about their activities, an official comminique said here today. Forest ranger O Gao informed that forest officials raided one Lumsang Borang’s house near DEM higher secondary school from where the tiger’s teeth were recovered. While Danggen was caught during the search operation, Lego tried to escape but was eventually bbed after a chase.

The two have been taken into 14 days of judicial remand and a case has been registered against them under various sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The team was led by DFO (T) Tabang Jamoh and comprised of J Geyi and T Taying, the release added.
