Smuggling of sand, stone continues in Karbi Anglong

HAMREN, Nov 18: In West Karbi Anglong headquarter Hamren, around 38 km in the border area of Meghalaya near the village Arting, from Pamdikhar River smugglers are transporting valuable white stone and sand to Meghalaya.
When the conscious villagers informed the matter to some media persons, they visited the site where they found that smugglers use dumper trucks to take the sand and stone from the River Pamdikhar in Karbi Anglong. The media persons also allegedly saw the labourers’ camp for construction of bridge on the river by the Meghalaya government. The smugglers use dumper trucks and machines to mine the sand and stone from the river side. 
Forest officials have bbed a fully-loaded dumper truck carrying stone from Pamdikhar River. But the smuggling of sand and stone from Karbi Anglong continues. Some social organizations have condemned such activities. The organization leaders alleged that despite Forest Protection Range office and forest check gate in the border areas, the smuggling of sand and stone continues.
If the KAAC authority does not take appropriate action, all resources in Karbi Anglong will vanish soon, they said, and added that unless the authority concerned took immediate and appropriate action, they would launch stir soon.
