Social activist passes away

Dibrugarh, Dec 8: A die-hard social activist who was well admired by the citizens of Dibrugarh for his service and contribution to several socio-religious organizations, Upendra th Konwar passed away on Wednesday at a local nursing home. He was 86. Konwar is survived by his son Hidyanda Konwar, daughter-in-law, grand children and a number of family members and admirers.

Born in September 14, 1931 at Konwar Gaon in Rohmoria, Upendra th Konwar joined as an official of Excise Department when he was a student of Arts in DHSK college. After his retirement from the government job, Konwar devoted his life to social works. Closely associated with Srimanta Shankardev Sangha, Xangskriti Mohasabha, Snmillita Jatiya Mancha, Axam Xahitya Xabha, Dibrugarh garik Mancha and other socio-cultural organizations , Konwar’s death was condoled by several organizations and dignitaries, including secretary of Dibrugarh Zila Karmachari Parishad, Dilip Singh, coorditor of former AASU coorditing committee, Porag Jyoty Baruah, Sasanka Neog, president of Dibrugarh district AGP, Pokon Baruah, president, district BJP, Indra Gogoi, its secretary, Ujjal Kashyap, president, Dibrugarh District Congress Committee, Etuwa Munda, and secretary Rajkumar Nilnetra Gogoi.
