Social activist Ramesh Gogoi passes away

TINGKHANG, March 8: Ramesh Gogoi, a distinguished social worker of Tingkhang, passed away today at around 4.15 a m at his residence here after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters besides a host of relatives. Gogoi, who was jailed twice for joining oil refinery movement in 1957, was associated with Kuorigaon High School since its inception. He served as the president of the magement committee of the school. Apart from this, Gogoi was also actively associated with the socialist movement in Assam. He also held the responsibility of the president of Sankar Sangha’s Dibrugarh district committee. Several organizations have expressed deep condolence over the demise of Gogoi.
