our correspondent

Itagar, May 18: The Aruchal Pradesh government has taken serious note of the misuse of Social Media by individuals and groups for disturbing the commul harmony of the state and targeting individuals for the sake of maligning their images and status and have decided to take firm actions against the offenders.

Individuals and groups using fake IDs have been spreading concocted and misleading information in the social media especially in Facebook targeting influential persolity in the government.“There have been deliberate attempt to defame and malign the image of persolities and the Government to create chaos in the society,” government spokesman Bamang Felix said in a statement here today.

There are evidences of using the social media to create commul hatred and disharmony in the state which has been seriously taken note of by the Government. The state government has directed the state police and IT agencies to keep close vigil to unearth all the fake id users in the social media and take serious actions as per the IT Act and relevant sections under IPC.

It further directed to ban the groups in the social media who have been promoting such fake ids by posting their status in their block, which intends to create social disharmony, invites commul hatred and create law and order problem.“These groups will now be held responsible for spreading false rumours and creating unrest in the society and will attract serious actions under the law of the land,” Felix said.  It is pertinent to mention here that, recently, a fake account holder had posted a wrong and malicious post claiming Felix to have resigned from his post owing to distorted facts which was apparently published in one of a regiol newspaper too. Felix had immediately lodged a complaint in Itagar Police Station against the wrong and false post and had requested the police to b the culprit at the earliest and award him exemplary punishment. When being apprised of the trend which is not healthy for any state, the government has taken serious steps to contain such malpractices.

Social media is a means to connect each other, unite people, create bonhomie, bridge distances and share constructive views and not at all a tool to promote commul hatred, malign the image of individual or organisation or spreading rumours which are untrue.

The state government appealed its citizens to use social media for constructive purposes instead of creating chaos and hatred in the society and urge upon them to maintain the information technology ethics.
