Social Organizations Banned from Holding Protest Meeting, Silchar

Special Correspondent

Silchar : In order to voice their protest against the detention of TMC team consisting of 6 MPs, 1 minister and 1 MLA, different social organizations which include Nagarik Adhikar Raksha Samanvay Committee, Forum for Social Harmony, Nagarik Swartha Raksha Sangram Parishad, Chorus, YASE and Pioneer Club have planned to hold a meeting today before the statue of Khudi Ram Bose.

As an important functionary of Sangram Parishad said, the way the Parliamentarians have been detained, heckled and subjected to various sorts of coercive methods by the Assam police is not only inhuman, but also unconstitutional and undemocratic.

These organizations were also to highlight the physical and mental harassment of NRC applicants and the long drawn process of update that kept them in tension and anxiety. Even after the publication of the second draft, these unfortunate left outs are not in peace, quite uncertain about their ultimate fate. Moreover, these social bodies were expecting to welcome the delegation in a grand manner and hold public meeting in coordination with the some TMC sympathizers here. But, everything has fizzled out. An official of the district administration said the question of holding public meeting or protest assembly does not arise as 144 CrPc continues to be in force.
