Social organizations, media urged to spread message against drug abuse

Dibrugarh, June 27: An awareness meeting was organized to observe the Intertiol Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking, under the initiative of the district administration and with the collaboration of the police administration, here at the training hall of the DC office on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner MS Manivann, while speaking at the awareness meeting, chaired by Additiol Commissioner Sajad Alam, stated the use of drugs and other intoxicating substances as a detriment for the society and emphasized keeping such bad elements away from our social environment. Manivann further called upon the youths to concentrate on creative works alongside their educatiol pursuits.

Attending the meeting, the Principal of AMCH, Dr. Ratan Kotoky, elaborately spoke on the diseases which affect the human body due to excessive use of drugs or other intoxicating substances. Dr Kotoky urged upon various social welfare organizations and media to play an important part in spreading the message against drug abuse.

Additiol Superintendent of Police, S. Saikia and Joint Director of Health Department, Dr. Paban Swarkar, in their respective speeches made an ardent call for the joint work of parents and concerned citizens of the society to work unitedly in fighting against drug abuse. Moreover, the people who were part of the meeting, in an oath ceremony pledged to work against drug abuse.

The meeting was attended, amongst others by Election Officer, Biswajit Phukan ;  Assistant Commissioners , Himangshu Choudhury, Tanvi Ahmed together with representatives of various social organizations , school students and government officials.

A motorcycle rally and a procession with placards was also taken out through the main thoroughfare of the town to observe the day, which was iugurated by Deputy Commissioner, MS Manivann .

On July 2 , an exhibition , street plays  in five important places  of the town, health camps will be organized  together with a workshop  to be held at  the conference hall of DC office  with the objective of   educating  the young generation on the harmful  effects of drugs.
