Social worker Bi Prabha Das receives Sati Radhika Award

Develop Assam on the foundation of morality, humanity and universal brotherhood, CM urges youths

Majuli, May 9: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal presented the Sati Radhika Award to veteran social worker Bi Prabha Das, wife of Ila Ram Das, who was the founder of Ek Saran Bhagawati Samaj, at a function organized by Assam SC Yuba Chatra Sangathan, Majuli District Committee at Kamalabari in Majuli on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the State has a rich legacy of women like Sati Radhika, Sati Sadhoni and Sati Joymati who enriched the social, cultural and spiritual landscape of Assam. “Sati Radhika has had an important contribution towards women empowerment and her character continues to inspire generations of women in Assam,” Sonowal said.

Responding to a request by the organizers, the Chief Minister assured to sincerely consider on instituting an award after Sati Radhika. Sonowal also urged upon the youth to emulate the ideals of Sati Radhika and put in hard work for developing Assam on the strong foundation of morality, humanity and universal brotherhood. The Chief Minister also said that the State Government was working sincerely to wipe out the VIP culture and establishing the ethos of ‘Every person is important’.

Lakhimpur MP Pradan Barua, Deputy Commissioner of Majuli, Pallab Gopal Jha, Xatradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Xatra, Jardan Deva Goswami, president of Assam SC Yuba Chatra Sangathan, Majuli District Committee, Nripen Das were present along with other dignitaries on the occasion.
