Social worker Khagen Sharma passes away

Lakhimpur, April 27: Former teacher and social worker, Khagen Sharma passed away on Wednesday due to old-age ailment. He was 89.

Sharma was born on December 21, 1927 in Jorhat district of Assam but he shifted to Nowboicha Lothow on 1945 to continue his professiol journey as a teacher at Lothow MV School after completing his education at Auniati Xatra. It was after he shifted to Nowboicha that he got married to Bhugoda Devi of Bihpuria Panbati.

Sharma was actively associated with the cultural aspects of the society and was very patriotic from an early age. He participated in the Gono Andolon of 1942 for which he was caught by the British Army and sent to Majuli’s Auniati Xatra as punishment as he was very young at that time to be sent to jail. Sharma was founder of Nowboicha Bonti tya Samaj and lifetime member of Axam Xahitya Xabha.

Moreover, he also provided homeopathic treatment to poor and needy people. He leaves behind three sons and two daughters.
