'Society will depend on Buddhism to survive death-destruction'

 SIVASAGAR, May 4: The 2559th Buddha Jayanti was observed with traditiol fervour in Sivasagar Buddha Bihar on Monday. It was attended by a large gathering of Buddhists from across the district.

 Srimat Sanghapal Vikkhu, hoisted the dammadhajja in the morning. Speaking at the dhammasabha following Buddha puja, acceptance of panchsil and somdan, Manoj Borthakur, teacher-jourlist, said that Buddhism was basically inner discipline of thought and action. Quoting Dr Radhakrishn, he said that society would depend more and more on Buddhism to survive death and destruction.

 Som Kuwar, Engineer, ONGC, while addressing the gathering said that independent India had accepted  non-violence of Lord Buddha as the base of administrative principle.

 The meeting was also addressed by vin Kumar Gogoi, president, celebration committee, Dr Malabika Boruah, Dr Sugota Shyam, Mesram Sandrasekhar, Pu Gogoi, Lakhimi Phukan and Bhaben  Gohain. Jagat Shyam, secretary, celebration committee, urged  the followers of Buddha to dote generously to rebuild the Sivasagar mostery.
