Sonitpur administration warns tea estates avoiding taxes

TEZPUR, April 26: The Sonitpur district administration has issued an order to take step for the attachment of movable property of tea estates for allegedly failing to pay revenue to the government  during the period from 2011-12 to 2013-14 fiscal.

In a statement emailed to media,  Mukul Kumar Saikia, Additiol Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Sonitpur district said that  despite repeated reminders to the magement of the three tea estates— Ghogra Tea Estate, Panbari Tea Estate and Singri Tea Estate in Sonitpur districts—for payment of land revenue, the three tea estates are yet to be paid of land revenue for the fincial year 2011-12 to 2013-14 amounting to Rs 6, 46,026 Rs 3,84, 621 and Rs 3, 20,888 respectively.

“We therefore in exercise of the power conferred vide Rule 69 of Assam Land Revenue Regulation, 1886 , an  order has been issued for the attachment of movable property of the three tea estates,” he pointed out.

The ADC further said  that steps have been taken for the attachment of the others defaulting tea estates in the district.
