Sonowal attends women empowerment workshop

 GUWAHATI, April 9: In a move to empower women and sensitise their skills, Chief Minister Sonowal who attended an awareness and skill development workshop for the women self-help groups at Majuli urged upon the women folk of the state to take the lead for a developed Assam. 

Speaking at the workshop for awareness and skill development of the women of 20 gaon panchayats organised jointly by Social Welfare Department and Assam State Social Welfare Board in association with District Administration, Majuli, Chief Minister Sonowal said that unless women come out in large number development of the state is not possible. He also called upon the women to take advantage of various welfare schemes based on their competence. 
Chief Minister Sonowal said that government of Assam to stimulate capacity building of the women, has adopted several programmes. ‘Sahayika Samaroh’ at Majuli has been organised specifically for women empowerment and the same will be replicated in all the districts. He also said that women are supreme and if their contributions can be utilised, development of the state can be taken to a new dimension. 
Minister of State for Panchayat and Rural Development ba Kumar Doley while speaking on the occasion gave a brief overview of all the schemes that the state government has taken for the empowerment of women. 
Sonowal also felicitated one woman each from 20 gaon panchayats in recognition to their outstanding contribution towards women empowerment. He also handed over cheques worth Rs. 10,000 each to 10 Self Help Groups under Kaklata Sabalikaran Achoni on the occasion.
