Dibrugarh, July 7: Keeping the virtue of education high up on the priority list, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met the honchos and important office-bearers of several schools of the town in a meeting held at his residence on Friday.

“One of the primary responsibilities of a teacher is to minutely observe the line of thought, mentality, and behaviour of the new generation. Otherwise, if not groomed correctly, such students end up becoming a burden for the society, not an asset,” said the Chief Minister. He asked the various school authorities to work towards combing out superstitious beliefs, if any, of the students, while remaining within the framework of education.

Sonowal added that imparting only academic knowledge was not enough for a student to emerge as a valuable resource for the country; but, instilling moral values was of equal importance. The Chief Minister also urged the school officials to make enough room for sports activities in their respective daily schedules. Proposing a daily time-slot of two hours to be assigned to sports, he remarked that such an atmosphere would be conducive to the growth of positive thinking among the students.

Sonowal, at the same time, also underscored the need for hygiene at schools, and called for the support of guardians and conscious citizens in this regard.

The meeting was graced by dignitaries like Lahoal MLA Rituparna Baruah; District Development Commissioner Jadhav Saikia; Additional DC Sanjay Dutta and officials of the Education Department.
