‘Sonowal government failing to ensure women’s security’

MARGHERITA, Feb 20: All India Progressive Women Association, Tinsukia district committee secretary Comrade Shikha Das condemned and criticized the Sarbanda Sonowal government for its alleged failure to provide security to women.

Comrade Shikha Das said that few days ago three barbaric incidents involving women rocked Assam where Subhalakshmi of Jorhat was molested by some youths, three Gauhati University students who went for a programme at IIT Guwahati were molested and under Tinsukia district in Chota Tingrai Tea Estate of Borbheta Line, a woman was allegedly gang-raped by a priest and two other persons.

She said that like the BJP-led government had the same ideology and principle as the previous Congress government. She lamented that a State Minister had made derogatory remarks on women which indicated that the women of Assam were not safe.

“I demand that Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal should immediately sack the cabinet minister who made derogatory remarks on women of Assam and also take strict action against those involved in those barbaric incidents,” she said. A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner.
