Sonowal lashes out at Chief Minister

From a Correspondent

JORHAT, Dec 29: BJP State president Sarbanda Sonowal, who took part in a BJP party general meet-cum-induction programme organized by the BJP in the Dohotia area of Jorhat district under Dergaon constituency on Tuesday, termed the present rule of the Congress in the State as a ‘dictatorial Hitler government’ and spoke extensively on the need to oust the Congress regime under Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi right from Sadiya to Dhubri for the greater protection of the indigenous population of Assam.

Addressing a rally of more than 2,000 people, the BJP State president said, “The people of Assam have not once but thrice elected the Tarun Gogoi government keeping in view the development of the region with social and economic uplift. But instead of development the Congress government began oppressing the rights of the people and began pocketing money from various state and central schemes, the share of corruption that was equally shared from the ministers sitting at Dispur to the grassroots Congress workers. As a result the common people were deprived of their rightful share of government schemes. The Congress started patronizing people with crimil background which ultimately led to the rise in the cases of murder, killings and rape. From 2006 till 2015, a record 82,000 cases were registered mostly pertaining to rape, killing, extortion and kidpping.”

“And most ironically, 75,000 women were either harassed or molested during the same period. Basically the Congress failed to protect the women community and provide a sense of security to our mothers and sisters. But they must remember that Assam is not an ordiry State, the State belongs to the great Ahom King like Chaolung Sukapha and Bir Chilarai, Lachit Borphukon, Joimoti, Mulla Gabhoru and Kaklata. The same State where people respect women and because of its virtues are known throughout the world. And that is why harassment of any ture meted out to the women folk cannot be taken so lightly. The indecent remarks by Congressman Nilamoni Sen Deka and MLA Rup Jyoti Kurmi itself speak about the attitude their government has towards woman which has shamed the Assamese people but the BJP is committed towards the protection of women and we pledge to provide security, self-respect and dignity to our sisters and mothers,” he added.

Sarbanda Sonowal further said, “I seriously doubt about the historical knowledge possessed by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and I feel pity when he sees himself as Bir Lachit Borphukon and speaks about reecting the historical battle of Saraighat in the 2016 elections. With days numbered the Chief Minister is seen taking all means to forge a tie with AIUDF and its supremo Maula Badrauddin Ajmal whose party found in the year 2005 and with links to 14 terrorist organizations is a commul party harvesting on the votes of the Bengali Muslim migrant population. Lachit Borphukon with Bagh Hazarika and many tribal chieftains defeated the Mughals. The sole reason being to save mother Assam from the intruders. So I would like to ask under what circumstances the Chief Minister can compare himself with Lachit after forging ties with Ajmal whose sole aim is to protect and harbour Bangladeshis. I am sure that Gogoi will definitely take part in the 2016 Saraighat electoral battle, not as Lachit but as Ram Singha and his deputy Badruddin will be Mir Jumla.”

Earlier conversing with The Sentinel, BJP State president Sarbanda Sonowal said, “The BJP has already constituted a committee under the chairmanship of former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha, one of the senior most leaders of BJP. That committee will interact with the people throughout the State and we also have a programme to conduct a participating dialogue with all sections of the society spread across Assam to prepare BJP’s vision document.”

Incidentally, there were widespread rumors about former MLA Sushila Hazarika of the AGP from Dergaon constituency joining the BJP today. However, the MLA who was present in the meeting refrained from joining the BJP. Sources informed about a formal joining to take place in the run-up to the elections though about a hundred former AGP workers were administered into the BJP by Sarbanda Sonowal.

Also present in today’s general meet were Member of Parliament, Jorhat Constituency Kamakhya Prashad Tasa, State BJP secretary Santanu Puzari, Kishan Morcha president Palit Bora, SC Morcha State president Nilupol Das, former MLAs Hemanta Kalita and Sushila Hazarika of Titabor and Dergaon respectively, Jorhat and Golaghat District BJP presidents Kamakhya Mohan Das and Debojit Bora respectively and Minority Morcha State president Syed Mobidul Haque.
