Sonowal opens Ambubachi Mela today

GUWAHATI, June 21: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal is going to iugurate the Ambubachi Mela at a function atop Nilachal Hill at 5 pm tomorrow. The door of Kamakhya Temple will be closed from 7.02 am tomorrow till 7.26 pm on June 25. However, the door of the temple will be opened for devotees only from June 26 morning.

According to Kamrup (M) district administration sources, 20 lakh to 25 lakh devotees are expected to throng the temple during the mela. As the master plan drawn by Dispur to push the mela from tiol level to intertiol level, devotees some of the neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh and Nepal, have started to arrive in the city giving the mela an interl flavour.

On the eve of the mela today, hundreds of sadhaus and sants took part in a procession taken out from Bhootth to Kamkahya Temple. During the procession, many shadus and sants show their power of yoga and tantra-mantra through stunts.

As many as six camps have been erected for the shelter of devotees in the State. Around 1.20 lakh devotees have already arrived and taken shelter in some of the camps today.
