GUWAHATI, Feb 21: In a bid to illumite rural areas of Assam and bringing all the un-electrified villages under the umbrella of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yoja, Chief Minister Sonowal had a telephonic discussion with Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal yesterday and requested his help to speed up electrification process in the remaining un-electrified villages in Assam.

Following the discussion, Chairman and Maging Director Rural Electrification Corporation Limited Dr.  PV Ramesh today met Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and held discussion. Dr. Ramesh informed Sonowal of the Corporation’s initiatives in rural electrification in Assam and reducing loss arising out of transmission and distribution in the State. Sonowal gave a brief overview of the implementation of Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yoja and the villages covered under the scheme.  It may be mentioned that letting the hyperbole be a passé, the present State Government in the year 2016-17, electrified 989 villages as against only 200 un-electrified villages that were electrified in 2015-16.
