Sonowal urges Parrikar for defence academy in Assam

GUWAHATI, Feb 21: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal on Tuesday called on Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar in New Delhi and urged him to take steps for setting up a defence academy in the state. Stating that the youth of Northeast have huge potential, and if properly trained, can immensely contribute to defence sector of the country, Sonowal requested Parrikar to set up a defence academy in the line of tiol Defence Academy with amenities for sports and promotion of other talents. Parrikar appreciated the proposal and assured Sonowal of giving it serious consideration.

The Assam CM also invited Parikkar to take part in the proposed mami Brahmaputra festival to be held from March 31 to April 4 this year. Sonowal said that through this festival, the State government is aiming to give a new momentum to the traditiol beliefs, rituals and cultures of various communities of the State. The Defence Minister while accepting the invitation, informed that all three wings of the Defence Forces will take part in the festival.
