Sori driver murder: galand police bs two at Mon

 SORI, April 22: galand police today arrested two persons on charges of their involvement in the killing of a driver from Sori in Sivsagar district at Oting village in Mon district of Meghalya on Monday. They have been identified as Sempa Konyak, 33, and Akhom Konyak, 32. Police arrested the two accused from Okha village of Tobko area, 12 kilometers from Mon town in galand. Police also recovered the Tata Indigo, which was allegedly taken away by them on Monday after killing driver Arpan Das.   Meanwhile, eight organizations including Sori Motor Driver Association staged road blocked at mtola here in protest against the killing of the driver. The protesters demanded strict action against the culprit involved in the killing of driver Arpan.        

 It may be mentioned that three armed ga miscreants on Monday attacked driver Arpan Das and Baba Konwar at Mon district in galand. Even though Baba Konwar maged to escape from the spot, the bullet-ridden body of driver Arpan was recovered from the spot on Tuesday.   

 The incident occurred when three ga people at around 5.30 pm on Monday hired a Tata Indigo (No-As-04, M-6626) at Sori for going to Mon in galand but when they reached Oting village, around six kilometers from Mon, one of the three passenger wanted to drive the vehicle. But when driver Arpan refused to allow the passenger to drive, he was beaten up badly by them and subsequently they opened fire. Baba, who was injured in the firing, maged to escape from the spot and spent night in the jungle.

 Sori Police, who on the basis of Baba Konwar's information, launched operations on Tuesday with the help of galand police, recovered the bullet- ridden body of driver Arpan from Oting village in galand.
