Sparsh leprosy awareness campaign

SHILLONG, Jan 31: Meghalaya Additiol Chief Secretary Hector Marwein on Tuesday stressed on the need for timely detection and treatment of leprosy cases. Marwein was speaking at the launch of the “Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign” on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day which is celebrated annually as Anti- Leprosy Day and which was held at the Health Complex, Laitumkhrah, Shillong. The Additiol Chief Secretary also said that many leprosy infected patients are hesitant to come out due to the stigma attached to the disease. Marwein made a call to all concerned to emulate Mahatma Gandhi who did not simply preach about the need for people to care for those afflicted by leprosy, but was himself persolly involved in the work.
