Special Assembly session for visitors-tents bill

IMPHAL, March 13: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today presented the Manipur Regulation of Visitors and Tents Bill, 2015 in the Manipur Assembly. A special session for two days was summoned for the purpose of passing this bill.

The bill was prepared on the basis of the recommendation of the all political parties committee constituted following the protracted agitations by the Inner Line Permit activists. Though the bill is silent on many issues the activists say that outsiders who came to Manipur after 1951 should be treated as oustiders and they should not be alllowed to own land. There is more population of the migrant workers than all tribes put together in Manipur. There is growing fear that one day the indigneous people would be swamped by the migrants.
