’Sports makes youths competitive’

GUWAHATI, Feb 5: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that sports promote friendship, peace and camaraderie and the 12th South Asian Games, where eight SAARC countries are converging will augur greater regiol unity. Addressing in the iugural function he also said, sports makes the youths competitive and disciplined and this 12–day events where athletes from different countries assemble transcending all boundaries will foster peace and progress.

Gogoi added: "The 12th South Asian Games will provide the youths a platform for fair competitions in various disciplines and will be a unique opportunity for the participants to prove their skills".

Meanwhile, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, who was also present at the iugural function, said in his speech that the Northeast comprises of a great talent pool of  sports and asked all participants to indulge in the distinct lifestyle and culture the region represents.
