Spotlight on extension of Sixth Schedule provisions

Special Correspondent

IMPHAL, April 7: The All Tribal Chiefs’ Forum, Manipur has brought the spotlight on the neglected issue of the extension of the provisions of the Sixth Schedule to the hill areas. In a statement, the Forum said that it will extend support to the candidates and political parties  in the ADC elections who have firm commitment to the extension of the same.

The Forum had organised a semir on the ADC elections 2015 on Tuesday. It was of the view that the State government has not considered the recommendation and report of the expert committee which had examined the Manipur (Hill Areas) District Council Act, 1971 and the Manipur Village Authority (Hill Areas) Act, 1956. The Manipur government had gone ahead with the preparations to hold the elections of the Autonomous District Councils by deliberately ignoring the recommendations and report of the expert committee of the All Tribal Chiefs’ Forum, Manipur.

The semir decided to support the candidates and the political parties who will do something towards the extension of the Sixth Schedule to the hill areas in Manipur.
