Srimanta Sankardev’s birth anniversary observed with religious fervour

LAKHIMPUR, Sept 19: The 570th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was celebrated across Lakhimpur district at all naamghars and xatras with religious fervour on Wednesday.

On this occasion, the environment of the villages in the district was filled with devotionally blended notes of borgeets, naam prasanga, recitation of Kirtana, Guru Bhatima and Gunamala. In North Lakhimpur subdivision, the Kalita Gaon Anchalik Sankari Kala-Kristi Bikash Kendra, Amarapuri Sankar Bor-Naamghar and Azad Banhpati Anchalik Sankar Bor-Naamghar celebrated the birth anniversary of the Mahapurusha with 2-3-day long programmes from Tuesday.

On the other hand, Uttar Lakhimpur Nagar Pachimanchal Sankardev Jonmotsav Udjapan Samiti started its two-day long agenda of the event on Wednesday. Similarly, the event was celebrated at various places of Bihpuriya and Narayanpur, including the naamghars.

In Dhakuakhona subdivision, the celebration of the event by Batsoramukh Prathamik Sakha of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha began with Ushakirtana which was followed by naam by female devotees. Khagen Baruah inaugurated a massive plantation drive. It was followed by Bhagawata Bhraman, naam prasanga and recitation of Kirtana.

In the youth convention event, various completions on Sankari culture were organized. The winners of the completions were given awards in the revered memory of Padmanath Saikia. The historically famous xatra of the subdivision, Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra also observed the birth anniversary of the Jagat Guru with special programmes.

Dibrugarh: Along with other places of the State, Avirbhav Tithi of Mahapurush Srimanta Shankardev was observed here too on Wednesday. Marking the 570th birth anniversary of the immensely revered Guru, the believers were seen chanting Harinam and naamgokha in all naamghars of the town, including East Milan Nagar Naamghar, Chiring Chapori Naamghar, Boiragimath Naamgarh and Paltan Bazar Naamgarh. The believers were also seen reciting verses of the holy book, Bhagawat on the occasion.

DEMOW: The 570th birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was observed in Demow Kendriya Naamghar on Wednesday. On the occasion a procession was taken out with the Bhagawat where the people of the area took part by wearing dhoti and kurta. Naam prasaanga and kirtan were also organized in the Demow Kendriya Naamghar. The devotees came and lit earthen lamps at the naamghar.

Dhekiajuli: The 570th birth anniversary of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev was celebrated across Dhekiajuli subdivision on Wednesday. Hundreds of devotees and followers of the saint observed the day in a religious way.

Naam and kirtanas were held in the naamghars and xatras. The devotees chanted verses to the beats of khol and bhur-taal in praise of the saint in different naamghars and xatras. Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal inaugurated a gate near NH-15 Dhekiajuli at the entrance of the road towards Sirajuli Xatra built with the MLA local development fund to commemorate the great saint’s 570th birth anniversary. To construct the beautiful gate, Ashok Singhal sanctioned an amount of Rs 4 lakh.
