SSB organizes HIV/AIDS awareness camp

Chirang, March 19: A one day awareness programme on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted disease and prevention of parent-to-child transmission was organized at 16th Bn SSB Ranighuli in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

The programme was conducted by counselors of ICDC/STD/PPTCT centre, RNB Civil Hospital Kokrajhar. In the programme, Dr KD Singh, second in command (medical), said that there was no cure for HIV infection but it could be prevented.  He motivated the unit personnel and their families to do blood testing HIV and VDRL. Pritiko Talukdar, counselor ICTC, RNB Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar said that in 89 per cent cases, HIV was transmitted through sexual intercourse. She urged people to use condoms.

Mamoni Baisya, counselor PPTCT, said that all pregnt women should get tested for HIV.  A HIV positive mother could give birth to a HIV-free healthy child if diagnosed and treated at early stage of pregncy. mita Barman, counselor STD clinic, said that both men and women having symptoms of genital discharge, swelling, painful and burning urition should consult the doctor for treatment. During the programme, blood test for HIV and VDRL also done.
