SSB seizes 6382 kilogram of canbis in 2015

UDALGURI, Jan 27: The 61 battalion of SSB stationed at Bhairabkunda seized 6382 kilogram of canbis (ganja) from the area in 2015. A total of 123 persons were arrested involved in illegal trade including timber smuggling. A total of 1582 kilogram ganja was seized only in the current month till January 19. The battalion has been conducting special operations in the areas of West Kameng district of Aruchal Pradesh and trying to combat anti-social activities in the region.

Talking to this correspondent Commandant Rajiv Ra said that the SSB troop has been operating in this region with a two point strategy. One is executive action to combat the illegal activities and the other to aware the local people to uproot the illegal cultivation and business. The ganja cultivation was the traditiol habit of the villagers of Boha. The village which is situated in the interior area of West Kameng district of Aruchal Pradesh Boha is the den of the ganja cultivation. The villagers resisted SSB jawans during their operation and the jawans recovered 905 kilograms ganja on December 30 last year.

There are about 200 families in the village and each family is involved in that illegal cultivation directly or indirectly. A group of 69 person involved in timber smuggling were apprehended by the operating SSB team and handed over to the police.

They have also seized 69 logs of timber. The startling fact of the region is that 5 gram of Charas was also found by the SSB operating team from the Boha village.
