St. John Bosco Catholic Church Inaugurated

KOKRAJHAR: The Bishop of Bongaigaon Diocese, Rt. Rev. Thomas Pulloppillil on Monday inaugurated and blessed the newly-built St. John Bosco Catholic Church, the most magnificent church in the heart of Kokrajhar town, in presence of Bishops of different Dioceses and priests. As part of the programme, the Bishop of Bongaigaon, Rt. Rev. Thomas Pulloppillil formally inaugurated the new Catholic Church followed by holy mass. The celebration was held at the auditorium hall of the new church were chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary graced the thanksgiving ceremony as the chief guest. The programme was also attended by State Soil Conservation and Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, BTC Executive Members-Doneswar Goyary and Rajib Brahma, IGP of BTC, Anurag Agarwal and chairman of Kokrajhar Municipal Board (KMB), Bishnu Narzary.

Addressing the gathering, the chief of BTC, Hagrama Mohilary said the Christian missionaries had made a lot of contribution, right from providing quality education, social integration and taking part in the Bodoland movement. He added that there had been some misunderstandings and disputes among the villagers regarding conversion. If a person gets converted to Christianity, the villagers used to boycott the family in some places and that happened due to backwardness in education. But this has come to an end, he said. The priest of Kokrajhar Don Bosco Catholic Church, Fr. Damian Basumatary and priest and rector Fr. P.A. Peter were the main architects behind the successful completion of John Bosco Catholic Church in Kokrajhar. The new church has become the most attractive and magnificent centre for visitors in Kokrajhar town.
