Stamped Ballot papers recovered from Biswanath, Rigging suspected

Biswanath: In an alleged act of vote rigging, several stamped ballot papers recovered today from the possession of school going, students. The incident was reported to have taken place in No 2 Patolibari Panchayat under Biswanath district today.

Reportedly, the matter came to light after a local youth identified as Rajiv Gogoi noticed these ballot papers.

At least 30 stamped ballot papers having symbols of both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and undersigned by a polling official was recovered from the possession of the school going children.

Also, there are reports surfacing in the media that AGP candidate for Patolibari Panchayat, Kiran Barpatra Gohain and her supporters alleged about “anomalies” in the voting process and raised concerns but those fell flat to concerned officials, but no steps were taken so far.

Meanwhile, the local people of Patolibari demanded re-polling in their village.

It may also be mentioned that due to the alleged anomalies and rigging in the polling stations during the first phase of the Panchayat Polls, Assam State Election Commission ordered for a re-polling in 48 polling stations today.
