State BJP Sends Memo on National Register of Citizens to Rajnath Singh

Guwahati: While it about a week since the final draft NRC was published, a delegation of the Assam State BJP led by vice president Manoj Ram Phukan met the NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela and submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh through him. In the memo, the BJP delegation urged the Home Minister that name of a single foreign national should find place in the final NRC while no genuine Indian citizen should be left out of the document.

The memo also pointed out that the names of around 2.89 crore people made entry into the final draft NRC. It also said, “approximately 40.7 lakh people has not found place in the 2nd draft NRC including some genuine Indian citizens.” The memo further states that names of some foreigners have also found place in the final draft NRC. In its memo, the BJP delegation has urged the Home Minister to take appropriate action in the interest of justice.

The BJP team that called on the State NRC Coordinator on Saturday evening included general secretaries Dilip Saikia and Pulok Gohain, party spokes persons Rupam Goswami and Muminul Awal among others.
