State BJP spokesperson slammed for brandishing Bodos and Rabhas as Bangladeshi

KOKRAJHAR: The Indigenous Tribal Sahitya Sabhas, Assam (ITSSA), a platform of literary organizations of indigenous tribal communities of Assam, on Thursday gave a warning to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal saying that the BJP could face a disaster in the next elections if the party continued to go against the interest of indigenous tribal people of the State.

In a press statement, the secretary general of ITSSA, Kamala Kanta Mashahary and general secretary of Rabha Sahitya Sabha (RSS), Rajkumar Rabha said that State BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami had stated in a press meet in Guwahati that the Bodos and Rabhas had migrated to Assam from Bangladesh. This was not only ridiculous but had also hurt the sentiments of sons of the soil of Assam, he said.

They said the statement of Goswami had caused anger among the indigenous tribal communities of the State like Boros, Garos, Rabhas, Karbi, Deuris, Mishings, Tiwa and Dimasa. “At a time when the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and State Government are going to provide citizenship rights to lakhs of Hindu migrants from Bangladesh (East Pakistan), the BJP State spokesperson Rupam Goswami is brandishing the Bodos and other indigenous tribal people as migrants from Bangladesh. This has not only hurt the sentiments of the sons of the soil but also proves the communal color of BJP,” said both leaders.

Mashahary and Rabha demanded that Goswami should give proof within 48 hours of the Bodos and Rabhas coming from Bangladesh, failing which Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal should remove Goswami from the BJP within 48 hours. The president of the ABSU, Promod Boro and other tribal leaders also severely condemned the statement of the State BJP spokesperson and warned that the indigenous tribal people would be compelled to take the path of vigorous agitation against the repressive policies of the ruling government towards the sons of the soil.
