State celebrates Easter

SHILLONG, April 5: Christians in Meghalaya on Sunday joined their brethren the world over in celebrating Easter.

Cathedrals and churches in the Christian-majority state were thronged by believers for special mass and other celebratory events.

It was a day of coloured Easter eggs and buns all over the state.

Archbishop of Shillong Dominic Jala presided over the Easter mass at the Grotto Chapel in the Mary Help of Christian Cathedral here. Pascal commemoration in many parishes was marked with candlelight processions and baptism of new born children.

Leaders of various political parties greeted Christians on the occasion.

Governor Keshari th Tripathi said: “Easter is a festival of hope and resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ.” Extending his Easter greetings to the people, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said the resurrection day filled people with the spirit of love, renewed hope and abundant blessings. IANS
